BILLY GRAHAM VERSUS GOD BY STEVE FINNELL

WHEN IT COMES TO BIBLICAL TRUTH WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST GOD’S WORD OR BILLY GRAHAM?

BILLY GRAHAM QUOTE: “YOU MAY KNOW THAT WE URGE IMMEDIATE AND EXTENSIVE BIBLE STUDY FOR EACH CONVERT. AS THE SCRIPTURE IS REVIEWED, THE PLACE OF BAPTISM WILL SURELY BE DISCOVERED. IF BAPTISM WERE A REQUIREMENT FOR SALVATION, WE WOULD CERTAINLY SAY THAT. BUT YOU COULDN’T SUPPORT THAT KNOWING, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT THE THIEF ON THE CROSS HAD NO OPPORTUNITY FOR BAPTISM OR CHURCH MEMBERSHIP. YET ON HIS CONFESSION, PARADISE WAS SECURED. JESUS SAID TO HIM, ‘TODAY SHALT THOU BE WITH ME IN PARADISE’ (LUKE 23:43).”

Billy Graham said If baptism were required for salvation they would say that. The Bible does say that.

Mark 16:16 …and is baptized will be saved…(NKJV)

Acts 2:38…and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…(NKJV)

Acts 22:16 ….and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'(NKJV)

John 3:5 …unless one is born of water and the Spirit , he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(NKJV)

Colossians 2:11-13…12 buried with Him in baptism….13…having forgiven you all trespasses,(NKJV)

1 Peter 3:21…which now saves us, namely baptism…(NKJV)

Ephesians 5:25-27…..just as Christ also loved the church…26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word….(NKJV)

Romans 6:4-7 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death……..7. For he who has died has been freed from sin.(NKJV)

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.(NKJV)

Titus 3:5….He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

Acts 2:40-41,47 ….”Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 47…And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.(NKJV)

The Lord only adds the saved, that is baptized believers, to His church.

The thief on the cross question. Was the thief saved? Yes. The thief was saved before the new covenant was in force. The thief was saved without being baptized. The thief was saved without believing that God raised Jesus from the dead. The thief was saved before the Day of Pentecost. Can men today be saved like the thief on the cross? NO. NO. NO.

Abraham, Moses, and Elijah were saved without being baptized. Abraham, Moses, and Elijah were saved without believing that Jesus was the Son of God. They were saved without confessing Jesus as the Christ. They were saved without believing God raised Jesus from the dead. Can men today be saved like Abraham, Moses, and Elijah? NO. NO. NO.

The requirements to being saved under the new covenant are. Faith: John 3:16, Repentance: Acts 2:38, Confession: Romans 10:9, Water Immersion: Mark 16:16

WHO DO YOU TRUST BILLY GRAHAM OR GOD?

TRUST AND OBEY   BY STEVE FINNELL

When it comes to salvation, trust and obedience to the gospel cannot be separated. Trusting God and obeying the gospel are one and the same thing.

Jesus said it. TRUST AND OBEY-“He who has believed…shall be saved…” (Mark 16:16
Jesus said it. TRUST AND OBEY-“…And has been baptized shall be saved…” (Mark 16:16)

TRUST AND OBEY
John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Believing in Jesus is obeying.

John 6:40 For this is the will of the My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.

Believing in Jesus is an act of obedience and it is essential for salvation.

John 11:24-26…..25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Jesus asked Martha if she believed. Martha had to believe in order to be saved. Jesus did not compel Martha to believe. Belief is an act of obedience.

Acts 5:32 And  we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Obedience is required to receive the Holy Spirit.

The three thousand on the Day of Pentecost were obedient to the gospel. They believed. They repented. They were baptized in water. They received the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:22-38)

Hebrews 5:8-9…..9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

Yes, being obedient to the gospel is essential to acquire salvation.

1 Peter 1:22-23 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified  your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love for one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

They were born again because they were obedient to the gospel terms of pardon. That would be obedience to the truth.

WHAT IS OBEDIENCE TO THE TRUTH?

FAITH: John 3:16
REPENTANCE: Acts 2:38
CONFESSION: Romans 10:9-10
WATER BAPTISM: Acts 2:38

Obedience to the gospel is not a work. There is no law keeping involved. There are no good deeds involved. Obedience to the gospel is not a meritorious act.

BEING OBEDIENT TO THE GOSPEL IS SIMPLY ACCEPTING GOD’S GRACE.

DENYING GOD’S WORD? BY STEVE FINNELL

How much of God’s word can you deny or change and still be saved? Did God give denominations the authority to deny and change His doctrine? I do not think so!

A friend of mine once told me he worshiped on the sabbath. I ask him if he worshiped on Saturday, he said no, our denomination changed the sabbath to Sunday. The problem is denominations are not authorized to change God’s word.(NOTE: Christians worship on the Lord’s Day, which is Sunday)

1.There are those who say you do not have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God to be saved.

John 8:24 “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”(NKJV)

Can you deny John 8:24? And still be saved?(NKJV)

2. There are many, who claim to be Christians, who proclaim that Jesus is one of many ways to heaven.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.(NKJV)

Can you deny that Jesus is the only way to heaven? And still be saved?

3. There are some who change Scripture to conform with their denominational doctrine.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them. “Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(NKJV)

Can you say change the translation of(Acts 2:38) from “for” to “because of” in order to validate the denominational position of salvation by faith only, denying immersion in water for forgiveness from sins? And still be saved?

Can you imply that, shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit actually means, you received the gift of the Holy Spirit before you were baptized? And still be saved?

4. Can you deny that prayer is worship and then pray to the Virgin Mary and other dead saints? And still be saved?

Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'” (NKJV)

5. Can you deny or change the meaning of Scripture to conformed to denominational creeds and still be saved?

Mark 16:16 He who has believed, and has been immersed, will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.(The Better Version of the New Testament by Chester Estes)
Can denominations change Mark 16:16 to say “He who has believed is saved by faith alone and should be baptized as a testimony of their faith? And still be saved?

Can churches change Mark 16:16 to say “He who has been baptized as an infant has had their sin forgiven and can believe later to confirm their salvation? And still be saved?

Can denominations change Mark 16:16 to say “He who has believed has been given the choice to be immersed, sprinkled or poured? And still be saved?

6. Can denominations change Ephesians 4:5 to fit their views? And still be saved?
Ephesians 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;(NKJV)

Can denomination teach there is more than one Lord and still have their members be saved?

Can you believe there is more than one faith? And still be saved?

It it possible to believe that there is more than one baptism that washes away sin? And still be saved? (Acts 22:16)

It it possible to believe that there is more that one baptism that saves you? And still be saved? (Mark 16:16)

How much of God’s doctrine can men deny or change and still be saved?

DID THE 1ST CENTURY CHURCH HAVE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES?

The prevailing thought of many is that since the Bible was not canonized until sometime between 300 and 400 A.D. that the church of Christ did not have New Covenant Scriptures as their guide for faith and practice. That is simply factually incorrect.

The Lord’s church of the first 400 years did not rely on the man-made traditions of men for New Testament guidance.

Jesus gave the terms for pardon 33 A.D. after His death and resurrection. (Mark 16:16) All the words of Jesus were Scripture.Jesus did not have to wait for canonization of the New Testament in order for His word to be authorized.

The terms for pardon were repeated by the apostle Peter 33 A.D. on the Day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:22-42) The teachings of the apostles were Scripture. The words of the apostles were Scripture before they were canonized.

The apostle Peter said the apostle Paul’s words were Scripture. (2 Peter 3:15-16…just as also our beloved brother Paul , according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures…

The apostle Paul’s letters were Scriptures when he wrote them. Paul did not have to wait for canonization to authorize his doctrine.

John 14:25-26 ‘These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

The words and writings of the apostles were Scripture and they did not have to wait for canonization to be deemed authoritative. The apostle did not use man-made creed books of the church or man-made oral traditions to teach the gospel of the New Covenant.

Did the early church have written New testament Scriptures? Yes, and they were shared among the different congregations. (Colossians 4:16 When the letter is read among you, have it read in the church of the Laodiceans and you, for your part read my letter that is coming from Laodica.) Paul’s letters were Scripture and they were read in different churches.

They were New Testament Scriptures long before they were canonized.

All 27 books of the New Testament were Scripture when they were written. They did not have wait until they were canonized before they became God’s word to mankind.

Jesus told the eleven disciples make disciples and teach them all that He commanded. (Matthew 28:16-19) That was A.D. 33, They were teaching New Covenant Scripture from A.D. 33 forward. The apostles did not wait to preach the gospel until canonization occurred 300 to 400 years later.

THE WORDS OF JESUS AND THE APOSTLES WERE SCRIPTURE WHEN THEY WERE SPOKEN AND WRITTEN. THEY DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR CANONIZATION TO BE THE AUTHORIZED WORD OF GOD.

MAN-MADE CREED BOOKS AND MAN-MADE ORAL TRADITION WAS AND IS NOT SCRIPTURE.

SIX DAYS OF CREATION? BY STEVE FINNELL

How is it possible for those who claim to be Christians to deny the Genesis 1 account of a 24 hour day, six day creation?

The apostle Paul tells us that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, (2 Timothy 3:16).

How can men believe that God had the power to raised Jesus from the dead, however, God could not create the heavens and earth in six 24 hour days. (Note: God is not bound by time, He created time. SEE: Genesis 1)

Was the Genesis account of creation not inspired by God? The entire Bible is God’s word, not just the parts we choose to believe.

You can believe all of the Bible or reject all of the Bible. Men are not free to chose the Scriptures that fit their personal or denominational view.

WHY SO MANY DOCTRINES? BY STEVE FINNELL

Why are there so many different doctrines taught in churches that claim to be churches of the Lord Jesus Christ? One reason is that the majority of those who claim Jesus as Lord and Savior do not believe that the Bible is the accurate word of God. That is an undeniable fact.

If you do not trust that the Bible is the accurate word of God, then you are at the mercy of denominational church teachings. Are Bible commentaries, church creed books, and books written about the Bible more trustworthy than the Bible?

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. (NKJV)

When men deny that the Bible is God’s accurate word, how can they put their trust in Him? They are by default putting their trust in church leaders, church creed books, Bible commentaries, and other extra-Scriptural sources.

Proverbs 30:6 Do not add to His words, Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.(NKJV)

If you are trusting a church creed book that changes the word of God, will you be reproved by God and found to be a liar? If your creed book does not change the teachings of the Bible, then why would you need a creed book? Why not simply trust the written word of God?

In the final analysis men have to trust the Bible to be the accurate word of God or they have to trust man-made doctrines as their rules for faith and practice.

ONCE LOST ALWAYS LOST ?   BY STEVE FINNELL

If men embrace the doctrine of once saved always saved, then the opposite must be true as well. Are men once lost always lost? Of course not. Once saved always saved is a false teaching. Once lost always lost is also false teaching.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Does this Scripture teach once lost always lost? Of course not. Men can repent of their unbelief and be saved.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life: but he does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Does this Scripture teach once saved always saved? Of course not. Men can stop believing or continue to live an unrepentant sinful lifestyle and be lost.

John 3:18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Does this Bible verse teach once lost always lost? Of course not. While men are alive they have the opportunity to repent and believe.

John 3:18 He who believes in Him is not Judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Does this Bible verse teach once saved always saved? Of course not. Men do fall from grace.

Mark 16:16  He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Does this Scripture teach once lost always lost? Of course not. Men can repent of their disbelief and be saved.

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Does this Scripture teach once saved always saved? Of course not. Men can reject Christ after having believed and become lost in sin.

THE APOSTLE PAUL WAS NOT ONCE LOST ALWAYS LOST.
1 Timothy 1:12-14 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of the Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

Paul was not once lost always lost.

MEN ARE NOT ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED
Hebrews 3:12-14 Take care brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that fall away from the living God……. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,

Men are not once saved always saved.

IF THE FALSE DOCTRINE OF ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED IS TRUE, THEN, THE FALSE DOCTRINE OF ONCE LOST ALWAYS LOST WOULD ALSO BE TRUE!

DOCTRINES CONTRARY TO SCRIPTURE    BY STEVE FINNELL

There are man-made doctrines and there are doctrines of the Bible. All doctrines that are contrary to the Scriptures are man-made traditions. What did Jesus have to say about the traditions of men?

Mark 7:1-13….3…holding the traditions of the elders….7 And in vain they worship Me , Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.8 “For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold the traditions of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many such things you do.” 9 And He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandments of God, that you may keep your traditions…….13 “making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down, And many such things you do.

1 Corinthians 15:50 Now I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God: nor does corruption inherit corruption.

MAN-MADE TRADITION
6. V. “Gods exist, and we had better strive to prepare to be one with them” (Discourses of Brigham Young, page 351).

GOD’S TEACHING
Mark 2:7 “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this?”Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

There are many man-made traditions such as.
8. We are saved by grace alone.
9. We are saved by faith only.
10. Water baptism is not essential for the forgiveness from sin.
11. Men can live an unrepentant sinful lifestyle and still be saved.
12. Jesus is not the only way to heaven.
13. God has granted many different plans for salvation under the New Covenant.
14. All men can be saved like the thief on the cross.

CAN MAN-MADE DOCTRINES SAVE ANYONE?

(Scripture from NKJV)

SATAN WANTS YOU DRY!   BY STEVE FINNELL
There is no doubt that Satan wants you dry. The devil does not want you to be immersed in water. Why would Satan not want you to be baptized?

Why Satan wants you dry.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in the newness of life.

Satan wants you dry so that you cannot walk in newness of life.

Colossians 2:12-13 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

Satan wants you dry so that God will not forgive you of all your transgressions.

1 Peter 3:20-21….were brought safely through the water. 21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Satan wants you dry because he knows water immersion is essential for your salvation.

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Satan wants you dry to prevent you from being saved.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Satan wants you dry so that you will not receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and your sins will remain unforgiven.

Acts 22:16 Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name’

Satan wants you dry so your sins will not be washed away.

Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Satan wants you dry so that you will not be clothed with Christ.

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy , by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Satan wants you dry because he does not want you to avail yourself of God’s mercy.

Ephesians 5:25-27 …..Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

Satan wants you dry so that you will not be cleansed, sanctified, and found to be holy and blameless.

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Satan wants you dry so that you will not have full assurance of faith with your bodies washed with pure water.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Satan wants you dry because he does not want you to enter the kingdom of God.

1 John 5:6-8 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with water only, but the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit  and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

Satan wants you dry because he wants you to disregard the agreement.

Satan wants you dry.

If Satan cannot keep you dry, he will settle for a denial that  baptism is for the forgiveness of sins.

If Satan cannot convince you that baptism is not essential for salvation, then, he will convince you that sprinkling and pouring water are in fact baptism.

If Satan cannot keep you dry he will convince you that faith does not precede baptism and you can baptism unbelieving babies for the forgiveness of their “supposed” sins.

Are you saved by immersion in water “ALONE?” Absolutely not. Without faith, without confessing Jesus as the Son of God, without believing that God raised Jesus from the grave, without confessing Jesus as Lord and Christ, without repentance(repentance is making a commitment to turn from sin and turn toward God). WITHOUT THE PRECEDING THINGS; ALL YOU WOULD GET, WOULD BE WET.

SATAN WANTS YOU DRY!

WAS THE VIRGIN MARY SINLESS? BY STEVE FINNELL

Did the Virgin Mary live a sinless life?

The Catholic Answer
Not a few Protestants are surprised to discover the Catholic Church actually agrees that Mary was “saved.” Indeed, Mary needed a savior! However, Mary was “saved” from sin in a most sublime manner. She was given the grace to be “saved” completely from sin so that she never committed even the slightest transgression. Protestants tend to emphasize God’s “salvation” almost exclusively to the forgiveness of sins actually committed. However, Sacred Scripture indicates that salvation can also refer to man being protected from sinning before the fact:
Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. (Jude 24-25)
Six hundred years ago, the great Franciscan theologian Duns Scotus explained that falling into sin could be likened to a man approaching unaware a deep ditch. If he falls into the ditch, he needs someone to lower a rope and save him. But if someone were to warn him of the danger ahead, preventing the man from falling into the ditch at all, he would be saved from falling in the first place. Likewise, Mary was saved from sin by receiving the grace to be preserved from it. But she was still saved.[Ref: http://www.catholic.com]

——————————————–

The Biblical Answer
Jude 1-25 was written to Christians who had met the terms for pardon. They were not prevented from sinning from birth. They were not saved before they were born. They were not saved at the moment of their birth.

Jude 24-25 is simply stating that Christians who sin, sin by choice. No Christian sins because  Satan made them sin.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God(NKJV)

Yes, the Virgin Mary was a sinner. There is no Scripture that states the Virgin Mary lived a sinless life.

Jesus was sinless. 1 Peter 2:21-22…..22″Who committed no sin, Nor was guile found in His mouth”,(NKJV) ALSO SEE: 2 Cor. 5:21, Heb. 4:15, 1 John 3:5.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.(NKJV)

The apostle John says Christians deceive themselves if they say they have not sinned since becoming  Christians. Would not the same be true for those who claim the Virgin Mary lived a sinless life? Are they not deceiving themselves?

1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.(NKJV)

If we say the Virgin Mary did not sin are we not making Jesus a liar. Are the words of Jesus in those who claim the Virgin Mary lived a sinless life? You make the call.

Every adult who knows right from wrong has sinned. Do infants sin? No. Are infants guilty of sin? No. Are adults who are incapable of understanding right from wrong sinners? No.

The only way the Virgin Mary can be presented as living a sinless life is through man-made traditions.

Mark 7:7 And in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrine  the commandments of men.’ (NKJV)
